History

In January 2007, Cary Medical Center received a grant from the Maine Office of Substance Abuse (OSA) to form a countywide substance abuse prevention collaborative (Aroostook Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition or ASAP) to complete an assessment of substance abuse and a substance abuse prevention strategic plan for Aroostook County.

In September 2007, Federal Drug Free Communities Support Program monies were awarded to Cary Medical Center, as fiscal agent, and the Community Alcohol and Drug Education Team (CADET), based in Caribou, to (1) strengthen community partnerships and (2) implement substance abuse prevention strategies countywide. These goals are being achieved through the ASAP Coalition, with CADET serving in an advisory capacity.
